I am 20 years old from Georgia. I became a Braves fan in 1993 after moving to Georgia. The 1992 World Series was actually the last thing I remember watching on TV in Mississippi so when I would hear anyone mention the Braves I wanted to know about it at first it was just because I wanted to go home to Mississippi. Little did I know 10 years later it would have given so much.
I feel that baseball and sports is where my passion for life is. I love the way that sports can bring 50,000 strangers together and make them a united one. Nothing else in life will be able to do that.
Growing up I always wanted to be a sportswriter just because when I was younger I remember watching the news just to hear about my favorite team (the Braves) and those lucky people on television who actually got to talk to my heroes were like gods to me so I always wanted to be someone's connection between their hero and themselves. Do I still want to be that..I dunno...there is a lot of trash in sports journalism a lot of writers who are more concerned with themselves then who they write about and I don't want to be like that.
What do I like about Horacio....Horacio seems really appreciative of everything, he doesn't take anything for granted (at least not in my opinion) and he seems like he stays true to himself. He is not out there trying to be in the spotlight he just goes out there and pitches his heart out. Horacio is not afraid to show his emotions on the mound either. He is a passionate player and I like that about him. I hope and pray that he will be in an Atlanta uniform for a long time. The Braves will be a better team because of him, he is their future!
Here is a little survey I did to help you get to know me.
Favorite NL team: The Atlanta Braves, because they are my life.
Favorite AL team: I would have to say the A's because their young pitching staff reminds me of the Braves.
Favorite pitcher: mmm I will go with two...Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux...they are both masters at what they do. Who could argue with that?!
Person in baseball history that you would have loved to see play? I would have loved to have seen Hank Aaron play..to understand how hard it was for him to break the all time homerun record...to understand what went on with him on and off the field. He went through alot, more than most of us kids today will understand. I still don't think he gets the credit or recognition he deserves.
Person(s) still playing you would love to have lunch with? Greg Maddux, Barry Bonds, or Roger Clemens.
Favorite Slugger of all time: um well my fav. slugger of MY TIME is Sammy Sosa, he is very happy to be playing ball and he shows it. I dunno about the whole "cork" thing but I know that he is fun to watch!
Favorite thing about baseball: Can't answer that with just one thing...I would need a whole website.
Stadium you would love to visit and why? Yankee Stadium..its a monument of baseball history. Wrigley Field also because just like Yankee Stadium its full of rich history...
Favorite outfielder: Andruw Jones....if he could get his hitting consistent he would be upstoppable..the MVP award would be his for the next 15 years.
Favorite Infielder: Rafael Furcal...he just has clear raw talent, has a cannon for an arm.
Historic baseball event you wish you were there in person to see? Cal Ripken breaking the consecutive game streak only because Cal is everything that is great about baseball and im sure it was a magical moment.
If you commissioner for one day what would you change about baseball?
1) no dh
2) lower ticket prices
3) no interleague play
4) no "unbalanced schedule" Its BORING to play the same people over and over again!! It may make for good pennant races but it makes April -August boring!
