Horacio Vs. Brewers
August 5, 2003

Facts:     The most amount of innings Horacio has pitched was 148 in 2000 with Mrtyle Beach, he has throw 116 coming into this game.   He is 0-2 with an 8.14 ERA in his last 4 starts (although he should have earned a victory in Montreal)

1st inning:
Horacio started the game with two straight balls then two straight strike to young before getting him out with a fly out to Chipper.
Scott Podsednik took two quick strikes from Horacio before a check swing down the third base line, he beat the throw to first, very fast runner!
Geoff Jenkins walked on a full count beforehand Podsednik stole second base.
Sexson-Horacio threw some heat to Sexson.  He threw an off speed pitch away to sexson to strike him out pretty bold move by the left-hander!
Clark-grounded out to Giles who went to first for the third out.

Not a bad inning at all for Horacio.  I think that when Podsednik got on base Horacio may have gotten a little rattled like "Here we go again" and maybe tried to over do it to Jenkins but battled the red hot Sexson and struck him out on a great bold pitch.  He threw a lot of pitches in this inning but he battled hard against the batters and won the war!  Good inning to build on!!!

2nd Inning
In the Braves half of the 2nd they wasted no time making three out leaving Horacio hardly enough time to catch his breath.  Horacio would have to come out and deal.

Ginter to Horacio to left on  2-1 pitch away for a homer.
Perez grounded out to shortstop Furcal
Clayon took a 1-2 pitch and grounded out to the shortstop
Horacio made the opposing pitcher look really bad on 3 straight strikes.

Gave up the homer to Ginter but then made three quick outs of the brewers.  Homerun pitch only "mistake" Good fast inning for Horacio 1-0 Brewers but nothing the braves bats can't handle!

Horacio batted in the top of the 3rd and reached on an error by the second baseman.

3rd inning
Young took the 2-1 pitch and hit a liner to Castilla that was originally called an error until they took the error off later in the game.
Podsednik bunted the runner over and was tagged out by fick.
Jenkins- Horacio walked Jenkins runners on first and second.
Sexson was intentionally walked.
Javy made an error
Clark -popped up to fick
Ginter- struck out!

The "error" to vinny was tough but Javy's really hurt...Horacios only mistake was the walk to jenkins!  He did some big time clutch pitching to get Ginter out!  The error that was charged to vinny was later changed to a hit.

4th Inning

Perez-  Horacio threw a good change up to him for a first pitch strike, Perez then got a ground rule double on the 1-1 pitch.
Clayton- hit right at vinny on the first pitch, the runner could not advance
Kinney- Struckout!  1-3
Young- hit a fly out to Gary in Right

The double to Perez did not hurt, horacio had a pretty quick inning!

5th Inning

Podsednik - struck out 1-3 (count)
Jenkins- Flied out to shallow center
Sexson- Extended his arms for a homerun (2-0 Brewers)
Clark- hit a soft line drive just out of the reach of Giles at Second, he preceded to steal second base while ginter was batting
Ginter- Walked
Perez - hit a ball to the warning track but Gary was right there to catch it!

There were some calls esp. to Ginter that I thought were strikes, but nonetheless the homer makes it 2-0 but with this offense we should be able to overcome that!

Braves take the led 3-2

**If Horacio's spot came up in the top of the 6th the braves were going to take him out but Vinny Castilla struck out for the third out and Horacio went back to the mound.

6th Inning
Clayton - Flied out to center
Hall - struck out
Young - Singled up the middle
Podsednik - hit a liner that Horacio went up and got!  Inning over!

I thought it was a pretty good inning by Horacio.

The Braves elected to take Horacio out after the 6th inning with the score being 3-2.   If the Bullpen would have held it (and they didn't) Horacio was set for the victory but thats baseball I guess.  I don't think this was Horacio's best outing but he was pretty good, able to keep the brewers from a big inning had great damage control and deserved the win.

At the Plate Horacio reached on an error and had a single.
